hi dear readers, perhaps u could already guessed from the title, yes, this is a revision entry. i'm going to do my revision here. yes, on my blog.
this is mno, management and organisation, and i have blogged once about it, so hope this is nothing new to you guys. this post will mainly talk about management theory; but do keep in mind, one can never be a perfect manager by just learning the majestic management theory. one has to turn these theory into practice hence the knowledge you will be able to obtain.
1st, The non-obvious,
people used to assume that human act in a rational way, but in fact, we're not, alright, say getting a girlfriend/ a boyfriend for urself. why didn't you look for the prettiest woman or the most handsome guy in the world? (are u rational?)
if you are rational, you will act in such a framework:
1) analyse the problem
2) search for solutions
3)evaluate the solutions
4) select a solution
5) implement it
6) look for feedback
well, this doesnt really happen, instead, people tend to act in the following way,
1) have rule based decision making as opposed to problem based. when one is faced with problem, they tend to think, what is my role? what does norm/ rule tell me to do in this situation? they tend to think of the role/rule but not the actual situation.
( if you disagree, tell me why do you sit at the same place in your class, tell me why u flock with ur good old frens but not exploring the opportunity to meet new frens but randoming sitting bside some other classmates?)
2) people also have bounded rationality, this is where they try to be rational (consider all the options) but they are simply unable to do so because of limited attention.
(quote from my lecturer, you can't possibly consider the girls in the whole world and pick one to be ur girlfriend).
3) people often decide base on judgment heuristic, i.e. they often make decision based on prediction. how likely is something going to happen? well, there's no certainty, hence is it optimal to base our decision on judgment heuristic?
4) people often escalate their commitment, i think this applies to most of us if not only myself. this refers to one, instead of responding to the negative feedback, will just persist on his/her own behaviour, esp if she/he was the one who made the initial decision. come on, change if it's wrong~! ^^
5) satisficing= satisty+ suffice.
it suffices so long as it satisfy ur needs. does it? people do not look for the nest alternative, instead they would tolerate with imperfection so long as " it will do".
6) the last one on how a normal person usually behave is he always look for POSITIVE performance feedback instead of neutral feedback, this is because tend to seek for evidence that what they are doing is right. don't ever ever do this, it'll bring catastrophic effect! trust me~!
the key take away from this lecture would be: the world might not be as obvious as u think. people make rule based decision, they do not maximize they satisfice, escalate their commitment, seek for only positive feedback and make heuristic judgment.
Lastly~~~ACT on ur hypotesis to get the KNOWLEDGE.
